Last season’s breakthrough star Sam James is eager to continue Sale’s impressive home form ahead of facing Harlequins at the AJ Bell Stadium.
The Sharks went unbeaten at home until facing Gloucester in their final outing, and James knows that the fans can help maintain their impressive home record.
“The AJ Bell is a fortress for us. We don’t want to come away with anything but a win at the weekend. We’re all excited to get out there and create that feeling again. With the fans behind us, there’s no reason why we can’t do that.”
After a loss in the first round of this season’s Aviva Premiership, James has said that the whole squad are looking forward to facing Harlequins at home.
“It’ll be very fast paced. There should be a lot of space around the pitch, so I’m looking forward to that – all of the back line are.
“We’ve done a bit of analysis on what their strengths are. We want to nullify that, but we also want to get in to our own game. We didn’t impress last week, so that’s what we want to do this week in front of the home crowd.”
When asked what the key will be to beating Quins, James highlighted the importance of a fast start: “We just need to get out the blocks straight away.
“Last week we didn’t come out firing and Newcastle got in the ascendancy, but this weekend we’ll come out and with the home crowd behind us, it’s easier for us to get more fired up and we certainly don’t want to lose at home.”
Despite disappointment against Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park, the outside centre has highlighted the positives to be taken from the defeat.
“We were half a yard off of everything. When we did get in to our structure, we looked sharp and we were scoring.
“We were frustrated, and when one or two things go wrong – someone misses their line or misses their assignment – then it all goes wrong. But there are plenty of positives to take from it.”
