Mike Phillips has hailed Sale Sharks’ performance as “excellent” after seeing off Leicester Tigers on Saturday.
The Sharks won the game 34-30 to secure a bonus point win, and Mike Phillips scored the first of the game to open his account for the club.
“I’m chuffed to get my first try,” said the former Welsh international.
“I’m delighted to help the boys get on the road. Getting a good start is important because Leicester are a great side and they’re a team on form, so we needed a big performance.”
Leicester had won three of their first four Premiership games before heading to Manchester.
“It’s a huge result for us,” explained the scrum-half.
“I thought the performance was excellent. There were some areas of the game that we didn’t get the rub of the green, but we were consistent and we were accurate.”
Leicester came to the AJ Bell off the back of a dominant victory over Sale’s next opponents Bath, and Phillips says there is still room for improvement ahead of Friday’s game.
“There was a lot of good rugby out there but we just need to work on those those little errors.
“We scored and dropped the kick off straight away, so we can still improve those little one per-cents and it’ll make a big difference.
“We’re all keen to work hard and we come in every day trying to better ourselves, and we just need to keep that mentality and keep plugging away.”
